May 2023
May 31, 2023 - Wednesday - This is Doja. She’s been here lots of times before. My belt still has little teeth marks from when I dog sat her as a puppy. A little souvenir from her as a baby. She’s super affectionate and is the quintessential little sister to Yogi. I’m sure he’ll be making an appearance here over the next week or so.
May 30, 2023 - Tuesday - I’ve not eaten boxed cereal of any kind in years. I miss the ease and simplicity of a bowl of cereal. We had a huge container of strawberries that weren’t going to last much longer. I sliced them, added a bit of sugar and left them in the fridge for a bit. Served over a bowl of Frosted Flakes is so good.
May 29, 2023 - Monday - I’m out here dog sitting for a friend. He has these yellow flowers growing out back. I was out with the pups this morning after the sprinklers turned off. I liked the way the sun was shining on the water droplets.
May 28, 2023 - Sunday - I’ll be dog/cat/house sitting for a while. Just like home, the first thing I do here is go out with the pups. I came in to get my camera to get a few photos outside and Phoebe was waiting by the door when I came back in. I had dinner with friends this evening and have a lot of photos from today, but this one was my fav.
May 27, 2023 - Saturday - Not too far from the house there’s a big field with lots of horses. And recently lots of baby horses. I stopped by there on my way out and got a few photos of a some of them. I think this one is the newest one. He has a completely white face. There’s another one who looks like this but he’s much darker.
May 26, 2023 - Friday - I was leaving the house this morning, I looked to my left while I was locking the door and saw this. I had my camera bag with me and pulled out my camera with a longer zoom lens. You know just in case. When I got closer it kinda coiled back and flattened out a bit. I did too. I’m going to have to be more watchful when I take the dogs out for walks.
May 25, 2023 - Thursday - Our last day in St. Louis was another full day. We videoed another foundation this morning and then did some interviews back at the office after lunch. We stopped at one of our favorite places for dinner before catching our flight home. We were walking back to the car after dinner when this guy walked by. His name is Luke. Luke has a long tongue.
May 24, 2023 - Wednesday - One of our clients here in St. Louis works with a lot of charities. On this trip we’re getting to shoot some video of a few of them. Our first stop was at a foundation that works with pediatric heart patients. It was a rough story to hear how the founder got started. Our next stop was with another foundation that helps provide birthday parties for children in shelters.
May 23, 2023 - Tuesday - Today we flew back to St. Louis again for work. We have meetings starting really early tomorrow so we flew in this afternoon. It was nice not having to get up before dawn to catch a plane. It also gave us some time to drive around town a bit and do a little sightseeing. I didn’t even see the arch last time I was here.
May 22, 2023 - Monday - We had a lot of rain last night. I saw this when I was walking the dogs this morning. It wasn’t very big at all, but by the time I went out this evening this little ant mound had grown quite considerably. I kinda wanted to poke it a little bit to get some ants to come out for scale but that just seems mean.
May 21, 2023 - Sunday - Yesterday Dad and I spent a bunch of the day watching The Godfather Marathon we came across. I always want a big plate of spaghetti when I see those movies. Unfortunately I didn’t take the meat out of the freezer in time to make it last night. Tonight was the night. I also have a big container of blackberries so I made a cobbler for dessert.
May 20, 2023 - Saturday - It’s been a while since I got a good photo of Biscuit. This evening she was being a bit needy and climbed up into my lap. I got a good one of her sticking out her tongue but it was a bit blurry. Sometimes for just a split second she looks kind cute like a puppy. The bulk of the time she’s a mess.
May 19, 2023 - Friday - It’s Friday!!!! My brother was out mowing the grass this morning. He had a doctor’s appointment and took the day off. He was meeting my sister-in-law for lunch and Dad and I decided to invite ourselves along. I don’t drink very often and when I do I rarely drink a beer. I’ve been craving one for a while. I had one a couple of weeks ago, but that’s been too long.
May 18, 2023 - Thursday - I took the pups out this morning and out in the grass I saw this. At first I thought some little furry animal lost its tail, but then realized it was a caterpiller. When I got closer to it, Zak walked over it and knocked it down to the bottom of the grass. This is him climbing back up into the sunshine.
May 17, 2023 - Wednesday - This is my 4,500th photo in this Photo of the Day collection. It’s fitting that it’s one of my favorite cookies from Sparkle All Over that was delivered today. This is the Salted Chocolate Pecan Oatmeal and it’s got to be one of the best oatmeal cookies ever made. Do yourself a favor and go order a big box of them. You can thank me later!
May 16, 2023 - Tuesday - Sausage, egg and cheddar breakfast tacos for breakfast. I’ve got to say these taste quite a bit better with the eggs I got from my brother. Dad liked them too. I also seasoned the eggs with some Ziziki seasoning. The dogs seemed to like them even better too.
May 15, 2023 - Monday - I went in to town to do some grocery shopping this evening. The Kroger here is twice the size of the Kroger I shopped at in Dallas. I was walking in the baking area and saw this big box of powdered donut holes. I’m not a fan, but my nutritionist is on maternity leave and I have a new one. Sometimes I take a photo like this to send to her.
May 14, 2023 - Sunday - A couple of years ago I came across a movie reactor on YouTube. She’s pretty funny and she watches movies she's never seen before. It’s the closest I’ll get to watching some of my favorite movies for the first time again, plus it’s not the whole movie. The reactions are cut down to 45 minutes or so.
May 13, 2023 - Saturday - I went over to my friend’s house for a get together with a bunch of other friends. It’s always a good time hanging out with lots of fun people. We also got to see his son go out in the car on his own for the first time. I remember the first time Riley went out on her own. She got lost. I miss living with her.
May 12, 2023 - Friday - Tonight for dinner we had breakfast. I’ve not made these chocolate chip pancakes in a long while, but I am loving the gas stove dad has here. It’s gonna take a little bit to get used to this new stove. I’ve not used a gas stove in years. They turned out pretty good.
May 11, 2023 - Thursday - I was walking through middle field the other day and saw a bunch of these. I think they’re weeds but what do I know. I got out this evening and got a a few photos of them. It was kinda windy so it was not the most ideal circumstances, but this one turned out kinda nice.
May 10, 2023 - Wednesday - I’ve not really cook cooked since I’ve moved out here to Dad’s. This is the closest I’ve come in a long while. I love Italian food and pastas of all sorts. Tonight I made this Baked Ziti for the first time in a really long time. It turned out okay but I’m definitely out of practice.
May 9, 2023 - Tuesday - Today I went out to grill some chicken for Dad and I for dinner. While I was grilling this little guy crawled out from inside one of the burner knobs. I’m not really afraid of spiders for the most part but it stayed right here on or around this middle knob and I was extra careful when I when I was turning off the grill.
May 8, 2023 - Monday - Today Dad and I were walking back from dinner at my brother’s house when he spotted this turtle that looked like he was about to climb the fence to the middle pasture. This guy was about a foot long and no where near any water, but I remember reading some turtles don’t swim. Weird.
May 7, 2023 - Sunday - Towards the end of the day Dad and I decided to start a fire. We did our first fire in this pit last week. It had been over a couple of years since the last time we had one here. We have piles of wood all over the place now. It took a little while but we were able to get a decent fire going even though we got quite a bit of rain yesterday.
May 6, 2023 - Saturday - So this happened some time during the night. I was up around 3am cleaning up after Zak and taking him out so he could finish making his mess outside. I heard the cows making a weird noise. I think I understand why now. Giving birth to something this size will make a cow make some weird noises. He’s a pretty cute little guy.
May 5, 2023 - Friday - Today I wasn’t as busy with work as yesterday, but I was a whole lot busier with Zak. I don’t know what he ate but he was not keeping his food or water inside. He made quite the mess today and I spent a lot of time cleaning up after the poor guy. These were also on my desk still so they’re the photo for today. I think that’s one of Zak’s hairs there.
April 4, 2023 - Tuesday - I’ve had my current backpack since early 2011. Doing shoots a bit more frequently and having to travel to some of them I needed a bigger backpack. I didn’t want to go with the obvious photography backpack so it was a bit challenging to find one that was big enough to hold the camera cube I got for my stuff. This one works.
May 3, 2023 - Wednesday - Today was a good day. I got to have lunch with a good friend. Then went to work from her place until I had to leave to head to Dallas for dinner. Dinner was extra special. I got to meet Riley and Rane for an early birthday dinner. I love getting to spend time with the two of them together. I’ve been wanting a beer for a little while too.
May 2, 2023 - Tuesday - I was out walking the pups this morning. There were several small purple flowers out here on the side of the house the other day, but my brother drove through with the mower the other day. This one caught my eye. I think it has just barely survived the mowing.
May 1, 2023 - Monday - Today I got out with dad to run a few errands. On the way back home I kidnapped him and took him down to Itasca, home of the Country Store. I was going to pick up some of my families favorite fried pies and some whoopee pies and sourdough bread for myself. They had no fried pies! I was still happy I got a few chocolate whoopee pies.
